Why this role exists
Assured raised $19M Series A on 9 Aug 2026Unverified.
Assured is on a mission to modernize insurance. Claims processing (i.e. should we pay this claim?), while often overlooked, is the foundation of the entire industry. It’s currently highly manual, involving phone calls, faxes, and gut instinct, costing tens of billions of dollars a year. We can do better. At Assured, we provide large insurers with the software solutions they need to win in a modern, technology-driven world. From self-service claim-filing software to backend fraud detection, we’re the engine that powers claims processing for some of the largest insurers in the world. The challenges we face are deep and diverse, from creating digital experiences that provide comfort and clarity to claimants at their most stressed and vulnerable to orchestrating large-scale ML-driven decision-making on billions of dollars of claims payments, life at Assured is dynamic, collaborative, and rewarding. As a Staff Software Engineer, Platform, you will play a critical role owning and evolving the strategy, architecture, and governance of our release and configuration systems across all environments. You’ll be a senior individual contributor on the Platform Engineering team, focused on the critical layer between CI systems and production. You’ll build the tooling, workflows, and safeguards that make releases reliable, scalable, and easy for every engineering team. This is a role for engineers who like to solve real-world complexity with well-designed systems—and who measure success by how much easier they make it for others to ship software. You will sit at the intersection of software engineering, infrastructure, SRE, security, and operational excellence, ensuring that our systems are deployed reliably, configured consistently, and scaled safely as the organization grows. The ideal candidate will have experience with AWS, GitLab CI/CD, and TypeScript-based applications, along with a deep understanding of deployment workflows, release management, and environment governance. This role requires a highly organized and proactive leader who can optimize release pipelines, minimize deployment risks, and ensure smooth, reliable releases. WHAT YOU’LL DO ⚙️ Drive and build the release and configuration layer of the platform, shaping how software moves from build to production across the organization 🏗️ Design and implement scalable release workflows and tooling, creating reusable abstractions that standardize how services are built, validated, and deployed 🤝 Operate as a technical leader within our Platform Engineering Zone, collaborating closely with CI and infrastructure owners to extend and integrate with core systems 📦 Build systems for release orchestration, including artifact promotion, environment-aware deployments, and release candidate validation 🔄 Develop self-service tooling and paved paths that make safe, reliable deployment patterns the default for engineering teams 🔍 Identify systemic issues in release and environment management and implement durable, platform-level solutions 🧪 Build and embed automated validation, safety checks, and rollback mechanisms directly into release workflows ☁️ Design and implement environment and configuration management systems, ensuring consistency, traceability, and reproducibility across dev, staging, and production 🚀 Continuously improve release reliability, scalability, and developer experience through automation and thoughtful system design 📊 Build and evolve observability into the release lifecycle, enabling visibility into deployment health, performance, and failure modes 🧩 Own the “last mile” of the platform—where build artifacts become production systems WHAT YOU BRING 🌟 5+ years of experience building platform systems, infrastructure, or developer-facing tooling 💻 Strong software engineering skills (TypeScript or similar), with a track record of building internal tools, services, or frameworks 🏗️ Experience leading or heavily contributing to shared engineering platforms, with meaningful hands-on implementation 🔧 Deep familiarity with CI/CD systems as platforms—you’ve built on top of them or extended them programmatically 🐳 Strong understanding of containerized systems (Docker, Kubernetes) and modern deployment architectures ☁️ Experience building systems on AWS, especially in multi-environment, production-scale contexts 📦 Strong understanding of release systems: artifact management, promotion strategies, rollback mechanisms, and deployment safety 🔍 Proven ability to identify systemic problems and turn them into scalable tooling or platform improvements 🤝 Experience working across platform domains (CI, infrastructure, SRE), contributing to systems you don’t directly own ⚡️ A focus on developer experience, with a track record of reducing friction through automation and self-service tooling 🧭 A builder’s mindset—you think in terms of systems, abstractions, and leverage, and you lead through implementation 🤓 Deep curiosity in Agentic, spec-driven development WHY THIS ROLE You’ll be a senior individual contributor on the Platform Engineering team, focused on the critical layer between CI systems and production. You’ll build the tooling, workflows, and safeguards that make releases reliable, scalable, and easy for every engineering team. This is a role for engineers who like to solve real-world complexity with well-designed systems—and who measure success by how much easier they make it for others to ship software.
