1KOMMA5° valued at $1.35B as it plots €100M energy AI push and US entry
The Hamburg energytech unicorn will spend more than €100 million on its Heartbeat AI platform in 2027, with CEO Philipp Schröder saying strong investor interest has put a US launch back on the table.
German energytech unicorn 1KOMMA5° has reached a valuation of $1.35 billion in its latest financing round, as the Hamburg-based company prepares to increase spending on the AI-powered energy management business at the centre of its pitch.
The company plans to invest more than €100 million in Heartbeat, its energy AI platform, in 2027. Heartbeat is designed to automate energy management processes including electricity trading, billing and metering — work that sits inside 1KOMMA5°'s broader focus on home electrification, where solar, storage and heating hardware increasingly need software to be coordinated against volatile power prices.
No lead investor or round type was disclosed in the announcement.
The capital question is not the only one facing the business. 1KOMMA5° is weighing an expansion into the United States next year, with CEO Philipp Schröder pointing to investor appetite as a factor behind the potential move.
Speaking to Reuters, Schröder said: "We're considering entering the US, because we've seen how much drive and how much interest from investors is actually behind that."
The company is also keeping the possibility of a US initial public offering under consideration. According to Schröder, its financial performance in 2027 will be a key factor in determining whether and when to pursue a listing. That is a return to territory 1KOMMA5° has visited before: it previously shelved its US IPO plans in April 2025 amid market uncertainty linked to President Donald Trump's renewable energy and trade policies.
On the policy front, the company has been an active combatant in its home market. In October last year, 1KOMMA5° filed a complaint with the European Commission over the German government's plans to subsidise at least 20 GW of new gas-fired power plants by 2030. It argued the proposed subsidies would distort competition, increase electricity costs and disadvantage decentralised renewable energy solutions such as virtual power plants. At the time, it said it was already aggregating more than 600 MW of flexible energy capacity through its network, with ambitions to reach 20 GW by 2030.
The latest financing round and the planned investment in Heartbeat AI reflect 1KOMMA5°'s efforts to expand its energy management technology while evaluating opportunities for international growth and a future public listing. The company reaffirmed last month that it is targeting approximately $750 million in revenue for the 2026 financial year — a number that will carry considerable weight as it decides whether the American public markets, and the American grid, are worth the trip.
"We're considering entering the US, because we've seen how much drive and how much interest from investors is actually behind that."
