Dugar Finance lands $18M in conventional debt from Symbiotics Group
The Tamil Nadu alternative lender's debt round closed in the same two-week window that saw rival True Balance raise $75M from Community Investment Management.
Dugar Finance has raised $18M in conventional debt, with Symbiotics Group named as lead investor, according to StartupTalky's running tracker of Indian startup funding.
The Tamil Nadu-based company operates in the alternative lending sector, placing it in the same category as a cluster of Indian non-bank lenders that have turned to debt rather than equity to fund their books. The round is listed in the tracker's window covering 16 December to 29 December 2025.
Symbiotics Group is a familiar name in the same dataset. In an earlier December window, the investor led a $6.5M conventional debt round for crop-tech company Ayekart, suggesting a pattern of repeat debt cheque-writing across sectors rather than a one-off bet on a single borrower.
The alternative lending cohort in the tracker has been busy on both sides of the capital stack. True Balance, also listed under alternative lending, raised $75M in conventional debt from Community Investment Management in the same 16–29 December window — four times the size of Dugar's facility. Earlier in the month, Fibe took $35M in a Series F led by IFC, BlackSoil closed a $7.2M Series C led by FMO, Ambak raised a $7.84M Series A led by Peak XV Partners, and Money View added $11.4M in conventional debt from RevX Capital.
That mix — large equity rounds alongside recurring debt lines — reflects how lenders in the space finance loan books, with equity absorbing risk and debt providing the raw capital to on-lend. Dugar's raise sits at the smaller end of the debt deals recorded in the month, but it is one of the few in the period led by a single named development-finance-style investor.
The tracker entry for Dugar Finance lists no valuation, revenue figure, headcount or specific terms for the facility, and carries no attributed comment from the company or from Symbiotics Group. The entry records only the amount, the round type, the sector, the home state and the lead investor.
StartupTalky's funding tables are updated weekly and aggregate announcements across sectors, from seed rounds in the tens of thousands of dollars to post-IPO placements running into the billions. Dugar's $18M debt line is logged among roughly sixty deals disclosed for the second half of December 2025.
