K2 Space's $500M Series D Values the Satellite Maker at $6.8B
Kleiner Perkins and ICONIQ led the round, which lands less than eight months after a $250M Series C valued K2 at $3B.
K2 Space raised a $500M Series D at a $6.8B valuation, capital the Torrance, California-based satellite manufacturer intends to use to scale production of large, high-power spacecraft for commercial and national-security programs.
Kleiner Perkins and ICONIQ led the round, announced July 30, 2026, with CapitalG, Lightspeed, Altimeter, Spark Capital, Sands Capital, ARK Invest, accounts advised by T. Rowe Price Associates, and existing investors participating. The company says the financing brings total capital raised above $1B — a company-reported figure that would be an unusually rapid pace for a business founded in 2022. The disclosed funding history includes a $110M Series B, a $50M Series A, earlier seed financing, and a separate $15M investment from NewSpace Capital.
The new round lands less than eight months after a $250M Series C valued K2 at $3B, meaning the valuation more than doubled in that window.
K2 designs and manufactures large, high-power satellite platforms for communications, compute, sensing, science, and defense payloads, emphasizing multi-orbit capability. Its Mega-class architecture combines high electrical power, substantial payload capacity, multi-orbit propulsion, and redundant avionics; the company says more than 85% of the platform is built in-house. That vertical integration is an attempt to control the subsystems, costs, schedules, and production bottlenecks that can derail a hardware program long after a prototype appears successful. K2 says its 180,000-square-foot Torrance factory is designed to produce up to 100 satellites annually.
The capital will support expansion, hiring, research, contracted deliveries, and development of its planned 100 kW-class Giga platform, targeted for the second half of 2028.
Brothers Karan Kunjur and Neel Kunjur founded K2 Space on the premise that the space industry has spent decades optimizing for a launch constraint that is beginning to loosen. As launch vehicles grow larger and launch economics improve, K2 argues satellite designers can prioritize power, payload mass, resilience, and manufacturing simplicity instead of stripping away every possible kilogram. Karan Kunjur is CEO; Neel Kunjur, a former SpaceX engineer who worked on Dragon avionics, is CTO.
The strongest evidence behind the financing is Gravitas, K2's first full 20 kW satellite. SpaceX's Transporter-16 manifest confirms the spacecraft deployed on March 30, 2026, and K2 currently lists it as operational in orbit. Gravitas carries customer payloads and is meant to demonstrate the power, avionics, propulsion, and orbit-raising capabilities underpinning the larger platform strategy.
K2 says it has secured more than $1B in signed commercial and government contracts. SES selected K2 platforms for its planned meoSphere network, a medium Earth orbit system intended to support commercial connectivity, mobility, fixed telecommunications, and government customers, with pathfinder missions validating satellite-bus and payload components before broader deployment. On the national-security side, K2 is part of Anduril's industry team developing prototypes for the Golden Dome missile-defense program, and says it has been selected as a bus provider for the Space Force's Protected Tactical Satcom-Global program.
