Neo Leads Funding for Sapien, a Startup Building AI Simulations of Real Consumers
Neo led the round for Sapien, which uses behavioral data and over 100,000 first-person interviews to ground its synthetic populations in observed actions rather than stated intent.
Sapien, a startup that builds simulated populations of real people to test business decisions before companies commit resources, has raised a funding round led by Neo. The company announced the deal on September 8, 2026.
Sapien operates in the B2B sector, offering AI population simulation as an alternative to traditional market research. The company creates synthetic populations grounded in first-person interviews, behavioral data, transaction records, and observed outcomes. It then runs a client’s proposed decision against these simulations to forecast how different consumer segments will respond. According to its website, Sapien has conducted more than 100,000 interviews to understand why people switch brands, stay loyal, trade down, or leave entirely.
The company’s pitch centers on a gap it sees in conventional research: people often misremember events or give answers designed to please researchers, especially when nothing is at stake. Sapien says it corrects stated intent against actual behavior—how people talk, choose, and act in practice—calibrating its models to match hard outcomes such as purchase history, cancellation rates, and repeat orders.
In one case study published on its site, Sapien tested the value of an aluminum-free product claim. Human conjoint research estimated the claim was worth a $1.97 premium. Sapien’s simulation estimated the premium at $0.49. Observed purchase data showed the realized shelf premium was closer to $0.03, making Sapien’s estimate roughly four times closer to actual market behavior than the traditional research method.
The new capital will go toward expanding Sapien’s platform and commercial operations. While the company did not disclose the exact amount raised or the valuation, the round marks Neo’s backing of a team trying to replace static surveys with dynamic, evidence-based simulations.
Sapien’s approach places it in a growing field of companies using AI to model consumer behavior, but with a specific emphasis on grounding synthetic personas in empirical data rather than generating generic profiles. The startup also offers on-demand fielding of new interviews when clients need to study a segment or market they have not previously examined.
The company is incorporated as Outrove Inc. and does business as Sapien.
