CScale Secures $145M in Series C to Accelerate Optical Interconnect Development
CScale has raised $145M in Series C funding to enhance optical interconnect technology for AI, now totaling $188M.
CScale, a company focused on developing optical interconnect technology for large-scale AI infrastructure, has successfully raised $145 million in Series C funding. This substantial round, which brings the company’s total funding to $188 million, was co-led by Atreides Management, Valor Equity Partners, and Premji Invest. Additional participation came from Sutter Hill Ventures and existing investor Maverick Silicon, with NVIDIA and Intel Capital joining as strategic investors.
Founded in 2023, CScale aims to address the communication challenges faced by AI scale-up systems, where numerous accelerators need to exchange data with high bandwidth and minimal latency. The company is targeting future gigawatt-class AI data centers that could involve thousands of interconnected accelerators across multiple racks. CScale's approach emphasizes reliability and continuity, as the company designs its interconnect architecture to contain optical failures without disrupting compute workloads. This is crucial, as failures in individual optical links can lead to significant operational issues in large fleets of accelerators.
The Series C funding will be utilized to accelerate product development and commercialization, reflecting the increasing demand for high-performance AI infrastructure. CScale’s integrated light engine is intended to provide dependable optical connectivity, ensuring that the systems can maintain performance levels as they scale.
CEO Martin Lund, who has extensive experience in silicon and networking, has highlighted the importance of reliability in AI infrastructure, stating that as the scale-up domains extend across dozens of racks, predictable communication becomes essential for system economics. The company's leadership team combines expertise in photonics, electronics, and software, positioning CScale to make a significant impact in the AI infrastructure market.
With its headquarters in Palo Alto, California, CScale currently employs approximately 85 people. The momentum from this funding round marks a significant step forward for the company as it aims to deliver transformative solutions in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
