Avaana Capital, Shastra VC Co-Lead $4.4M Seed Round In NuSynth
The speciality chemicals startup will use the seed capital to strengthen R&D and expand its team, with an initial focus on pharmaceuticals and electronics chemicals.
Speciality chemicals startup NuSynth has raised $4.4M in a seed funding round co-led by Avaana Capital and Shastra VC, per an announcement dated 13 October 2026.
The company is developing proprietary chemical processes aimed at lowering manufacturing costs, reducing resource consumption and cutting dependence on imported intermediates. The fresh capital will be used to strengthen its research and development work and to expand its team.
NuSynth is initially targeting pharmaceuticals and electronics chemicals — two segments where the company's pitch around process economics and import substitution is most likely to find a hearing. It is working with Indian manufacturing partners to take those processes from laboratory validation through to industrial production.
That handoff from lab to plant is the crux of the bet. Process chemistry startups can demonstrate promising routes at bench scale, but the economics only become real when a partner is running the chemistry at volume. NuSynth's model leans on existing Indian manufacturers rather than building its own capacity, which keeps capital requirements lighter while tying its progress to the execution of its partners.
The dependence on imported intermediates is the backdrop the company is positioning against: if NuSynth's processes work as intended, they would reduce both the cost and the supply-chain exposure that come with sourcing those inputs from abroad.
Avaana Capital and Shastra VC co-led the round, putting both firms on the cap table at the seed stage. Neither the valuation nor the terms of the round were disclosed in the announcement.
With the new funding, NuSynth's near-term priorities are clear: deepen the R&D pipeline and add people. Whether the startup can convert lab-validated chemistry into industrial-scale production with its Indian manufacturing partners will determine what the next round looks like.
