Banaraswala's Banarasi food play gets $2M backing from Prax Impex
The Banarasi food brand, which currently runs three outlets in Delhi, will use the seed capital to expand its franchise network and target 50 outlets by March 2027.
Banaraswala, a food brand built around traditional Banarasi cuisine, has raised $2 million in a seed funding round from Prax Impex Private Limited, the company announced on 15 October 2026.
The proceeds are earmarked for expanding the brand's outlet count, developing new menu offerings and growing its franchise network across India.
Founded by Vibhanshu Mishra, Banaraswala operates under the tagline "Ghat Se Ghar Tak" and serves traditional Banarasi food, including sweets, chaats and meals. The brand leans into the theatre of the region's eating culture, incorporating elements such as kulhads, pattal and clay into its dining experience — a detail that sets it apart from the standard quick-service format it otherwise resembles.
The company currently runs three outlets, all in Delhi, and also sells through major food delivery platforms, giving it a presence beyond its physical footprint. Its next set of locations is already mapped out: Banswara in Rajasthan, Sarangpur in Gujarat, and Farrukhabad and Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh.
Those are small cities, and that is the point. Banaraswala's stated ambition is to reach 50 outlets across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi NCR and other Tier 2 markets by March 2027 — a roughly sixteen-fold increase from its current base in under a year and a half. The expansion will mix company-owned and franchise outlets, a structure that allows a young brand to add doors without carrying the full capital burden of each one.
The company also plans to strengthen its operations, team and processes as it moves into new markets, according to the announcement. That back-end work is likely to be as consequential as the storefronts: franchising across four states demands supply chains, training and quality control that few three-outlet operators have built.
Prax Impex Private Limited is the sole named investor in the round. No valuation was disclosed.
For Banaraswala, the bet is that regional Indian food — specific, rooted, and largely absent from national chains — can travel. The Tier 2 towns it has named are precisely where that proposition faces its real test: whether a Banarasi identity translates into a repeatable, scalable format outside Banaras, and outside Delhi.
