Walapay's $4.6M Seed Round Led by Generative Ventures
Generative Ventures led the seed for the cross-border payments API company, with Commerce Ventures, Polygon Labs and nine other firms participating.
Walapay, a payments infrastructure company, has raised $4.6M in seed funding, according to AlleyWatch's daily funding report for October 2, 2026.
The company sells a single API that handles account issuance, collections, currency exchange, and payouts across borders — bundling four functions that fintechs, marketplaces, and payroll providers typically stitch together from separate vendors. That pitch places Walapay in the crowded orchestration layer of global money movement, where the competition is less about any one capability and more about how much of the corridor map a single integration can cover.
Generative Ventures led the round. The participating investors were Commerce Ventures, Polygon Labs, Verda Ventures, NGC Ventures, FGV Capital, Jsquare, Knollwood Investment Advisory, Big Brain Holdings, Reflexive Capital, and Contribution Capital — a mix of venture funds and crypto-adjacent backers, with Polygon Labs the most recognizable name on the infrastructure side of that list.
Walapay was founded by Tom Borgers and Dimitri Borgers in 2022. The source report did not disclose a valuation, total funding to date, headcount, or how the company intends to deploy the new capital.
The seed is a modest one by the standards of the same day's news. Walapay's $4.6M appeared in the same daily report as TriGemX Bio, the biotech company formerly known as Kallyope, which raised $94M in venture funding led by The Column Group, TCG Crossover, and Viking Global Investors. TriGemX Bio, founded by Charles Zuker, Richard Axel, and Thomas Maniatis in 2015, has now raised a total of $573M in reported equity funding and relaunched under its new name alongside the financing. AlleyWatch's roundup covers venture capital, seed, pre-seed, and angel deals for New York-area startups, and the page is updated throughout the day as new fundings are confirmed.
For Walapay, the raise buys runway in a segment where the barrier to entry is regulatory and operational rather than technical, and where the investor roster — heavy on funds with exposure to stablecoin and blockchain infrastructure — signals where the company expects the next leg of cross-border volume to come from.
