Prolific Machines Opens $50M Series B2 with Atoms & Bits, Nant Capital
The Emeryville, California biotech's new round brings its total funding past $100 million.
Prolific Machines has announced the initial closing of a $50M Series B2, with Atoms & Bits and Nant Capital leading the round.
The Emeryville, California-based biotechnology company works on biologics development and manufacturing, using integrated optogenetics-enabled solutions that it says deliver breakthrough yields, superior on-target quality, and precise process control. Optogenetics — the use of light to control gene expression inside living cells — sits at the center of the company's approach to producing biologics.
The two leads come from different corners of the investment world. Atoms & Bits is a growth-stage fund. Nant Capital is the investment organization within a portfolio of private and public companies in health and life sciences founded by Patrick Soon-Shiong, M.D.
The new capital lifts Prolific Machines' total funding to more than $100 million. The company characterized the $50M figure as an initial closing, a structure that leaves room for additional investors to join the round before it is finalized.
The raise lands as biologics developers and their manufacturing partners continue to look for ways to improve productivity and control quality attributes in production runs — the problems Prolific Machines targets with its light-controlled platform. The company frames its optogenetics-enabled solutions as a route to stronger yields and tighter process control, capabilities it argues are difficult to achieve with conventional bioprocessing methods.
The announcement was dated October 14, 2026, and did not disclose how the proceeds will be allocated, nor the valuation at which the round was raised.
