Lux Capital leads Varda's $251M Series D for orbital material processing
Varda, a microgravity-enabled life sciences company that processes materials in orbit and returns them to Earth, announced the $251M Series D on Sept. 30, 2026, with Lux Capital as lead investor.
Varda, a microgravity-enabled life sciences company that processes materials in orbit and returns them to Earth, has raised $251M in Series D funding. The round was announced on Sept. 30, 2026, with Lux Capital as the lead investor.
The El Segundo, California-based company builds its W-Series platform entirely in-house for orbital material processing and reentry. Varda works with government, biopharma, and microgravity research customers, using the microgravity environment of low Earth orbit to produce materials with unique morphologies and crystal structures that are difficult to achieve on Earth. Its platform includes a reentry capsule designed to return processed materials to the ground for analysis and downstream use.
The $251M Series D marks one of the largest recent financings for a company focused on orbital manufacturing and space-enabled life sciences. Lux Capital, a venture firm known for backing frontier technology companies, led the round. No other investors were named in the announcement.
Varda's model combines orbital processing with Earth return, positioning it as a full-platform provider for microgravity research and production rather than a single-experiment service. The company has been expanding its W-Series platform and building out collaborations across biopharma development and government hypersonic and reentry testing.
Details on how the Series D proceeds will be allocated were not included in the announcement.
