Brazil's BioLinker Secures $1.7M to Expand Automated Biotech Capabilities
BioLinker has raised $1.7M, led by Axcell, to develop an automated lab in Manaus and double its workforce to 24.
BioLinker, a Brazilian biotech startup founded in 2018 by scientists from the University of São Paulo, has successfully raised $1.7M in a new funding round. The investment, led by Axcell with a contribution of $1.4M, along with approximately $240K from FAPESP through its PIPE Phase 2 program, is aimed at enhancing the company's operational capabilities.
The company specializes in developing and manufacturing recombinant proteins using innovative techniques in synthetic biology and genetic engineering, which are crucial for research, diagnostics, and industrial applications. With the newly secured funding, BioLinker plans to establish an automated laboratory at the Amazon BioBusiness Center in Manaus. This facility is expected to leverage robotics for generating biological data at scale, which will be instrumental in training AI models and expanding DNA production within Brazil.
In addition to the lab setup, BioLinker is set to double its workforce from 12 to 24 employees. The startup's funding round remains open as it seeks to attract an international investor to support its growth, particularly with a Series A funding planned within the next two years. The company is already generating recurring revenue and anticipates that this new capital will sustain its operations for the next three years, positioning it favorably in a competitive market.
As BioLinker embarks on this significant expansion, the company underscores its commitment to advancing biotechnology in Brazil, a sector that is becoming increasingly vital in the global landscape. With a focus on automation and artificial intelligence, BioLinker is poised to make a significant impact in both local and international biotechnology markets.
