Carlyle-backed VLCC takes Rs 110 crore from BlackSoil Capital for its next growth push
The financing will support new product introductions and store network expansion, according to CEO Deepak Taluja.
VLCC, India's homegrown beauty and wellness company, has secured Rs 110 crore ($13M) from BlackSoil Capital to support its next phase of growth across its beauty, wellness and personal care businesses.
The company, backed by global investment firm Carlyle, said the capital will support its ongoing business requirements and growth opportunities, including strengthening its operating platform and supporting the expansion of its businesses and subsidiaries.
BlackSoil Capital provides alternative credit solutions to high-growth businesses across sectors, offering flexible financing intended to help companies scale operations. The VLCC transaction is financing rather than a conventional equity round, and comes as the wellness company continues to scale what it describes as an integrated beauty and wellness platform spanning services, personal care products, vocational education and international markets.
Founded by Vandana Luthra in 1989, VLCC has grown into a platform with a presence across more than 250 locations in over 130 cities. Its businesses span beauty and wellness services, vocational training and personal care products, with operations across India, South Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
"This financing will enable us to pursue our growth plans across our businesses, including new product introduction and store network expansion," said Deepak Taluja, CEO of VLCC. "With increasing demand for organised beauty and wellness services and products, we remain focused on enhancing customer experience, expanding our reach, and building a stronger, future-ready platform."
The deal lands as demand shifts toward organised players in India's beauty and personal care market, a segment where branded clinic networks, product lines and training institutes increasingly compete for the same consumer spending. VLCC's spread across services, products and vocational education gives it multiple levers as it pursues expansion, both in India and in its overseas markets across South Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
For BlackSoil Capital, the investment adds another consumer-facing, multi-business platform to a portfolio focused on providing growth-stage companies with financing designed to scale operations and unlock long-term value. The financing is intended to support VLCC's ongoing business requirements rather than a single, defined initiative, leaving the company room to allocate capital across its operating platform and subsidiaries as opportunities arise.
This financing will enable us to pursue our growth plans across our businesses, including new product introduction and store network expansion. With increasing demand for organised beauty and wellness services and products, we remain focused on enhancing customer experience, expanding our reach, and building a stronger, future-ready platform.
