Prosper AI lands $30M from Andreessen Horowitz for AI healthcare workforce
Andreessen Horowitz led the Series A, with Base10, Emergence Capital, Y Combinator and Company Ventures also participating; Prosper AI says revenue has grown 5x since its September seed round.
Nine months after announcing its seed round, Prosper AI has closed a $30M Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), with participation from Base10 and continued support from Emergence Capital, Y Combinator and Company Ventures. The startup, launched in 2023 by co-founders and co-CEOs Josep Mingot and Xavier de Gracia, initially had a more horizontal focus before narrowing to healthcare operations in 2024.
Prosper AI builds an agentic AI platform designed to act as an AI workforce for healthcare operations teams. The platform answers patient calls, schedules appointments directly in the electronic health record, verifies insurance benefits, automates patient billing and contacts insurers on the phone when additional information is needed. The company currently has three core AI agents for scheduling, insurance benefits verification and billing, and says it is building more use cases across what co-founder and co-CEO Josep Mingot calls the 'long tail' of patient administrative communications, including prescription refills and insurance updates.
The company says the new funding will go toward expanding its engineering and customer-facing teams, deepening integrations across the largest EHR platforms and accelerating adoption across provider groups and health systems. Prosper AI says it has integrations across athenahealth, ModMed, Veradigm, ECW, ImagineSoftware and other platforms.
The round comes with notable momentum. Since its seed funding announcement in September, Prosper AI says it has grown revenue 5x, added more than 40 healthcare organizations as customers and expanded across more than 150,000 healthcare providers. It now works with 60 healthcare organizations, including PE-backed outpatient groups such as Preferred Dermatology, health systems such as Jackson Memorial Hospital and healthcare technology companies athenahealth and ImagineSoftware. The company says it now manages $1.3 billion in patient care.
According to Prosper AI, automating the patient journey end-to-end helps providers lower administrative costs by more than 40% while giving patients visibility into their coverage and financial responsibility before care is delivered. The company cites customer results including up to 60% to 70% automation of some workflows, such as scheduling, and revenue increases of up to 12%, driven partly by ensuring patients are financially cleared before a visit.
The market context is important: while many voice AI companies focus on specific tasks like patient scheduling or billing, Prosper AI was designed to manage the broader patient journey, coordinating patients, providers and insurers across voice, APIs, fax and browser-based AI. Executives say the company wins 80% of competitive evaluations as providers and health tech companies increasingly look for end-to-end solutions rather than single-feature tools. The aim, executives say, is to use agentic AI to help eliminate waste, drive cost savings and increase revenue while also supporting a better patient experience.
Press
They want to eliminate every administrative friction point between a patient and the care they need. What convinced us was the pattern we kept hearing from customers—providers would deploy Prosper AI for scheduling, then quickly ask them to take on insurance verification, then billing, and so on. That pull-through only happens when your technology can consistently guide patients through the care journey end-to-end. It's no surprise Prosper AI is winning the vast majority of competitive evaluations they enter.
